in Medicine and Nanobiotechnology
English |
A
comprehensive and interdisciplinary lecture course is offered by the
Faculty of Physics and Mechatronics together with the Fraunhofer Institute
of Biomedical Technology, St. Ingbert. The
course covers basics and the most recent achievements in laser medicine,
laser savety and optical nanobiotechnology with focus on laser eye
surgery, skin cancer diagnosis, laser supported in vitro fertilization,
gene diagnosis and gene therapy. The course is designed for people who
study medicine, natural and engineering science and informatics. Practical
sessions are being held at the University Eye Clinic and Clinic for
Dermatology. Upon the completion of the test an internationally recognized
certificate for authorization in laser savety will be conferred. The
course includes lectures by Prof. Karsten König (University of Saarland
and Fraunhofer Institute) and the lecturer Dr. Matthias Krause (University
Eye Clinic in Homburg). Prof.
König is biophysicist, he has worked at the Beckman Laser Institute in
California, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Institute for Laser
Technology in Ulm, Center for Laser Microscopy in Jena and has established
the department of laser medicine at the Fraunhofer Institute, St. Ingbert.
He has been awarded the Pascal Rol Price conferred by the International
Society of Optical Engineering (SPIE) for the novel laser therapeutic
method of treatment of impaired vision. He has also been awarded the
“Innovationspreis Medizintechnik” with the allocation of 225,000 Euro
for laser diagnostics of skin cancer, the international
“Feulgen-Preis” for innovative research in the field of gene
diagnostics, the “Thüringer Forschungspreis” for a new method in gene
therapy and the “Kortum-Motivationspreis” for the development of novel
laser medical products. Dr. Kause has worked at the Stanford University and at Massachusetts General Hospital of Harvard Medical School and has established the present Department of Photodynamic Therapy at the University Eye Clinic in Homburg. He has been awarded the “Alois-Lauer-Förderpreis” in medicine for a novel method of laser treatment of choroids melanoma. |
